Skin tumours are associated with sun damaged skin. Most are benign but a number of important malignant skin tumours are occasionally encountered. These include basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma.

Any skin tumour that does not disappear in 4 to 6 weeks should be assessed by a doctor, usually a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist. The vast majority of malignant skin tumours are completely cured by early and adequate surgery.

The surgical procedures can be carried out in the doctor’s rooms or in theatre as a day case.
